Luke Gutgsell is a Portland, OR based dance artist. He earned his BFA in Dance from The Ohio State University and attended the Naropa Institute. Gutgsell also trained on scholarship at the Merce Cunningham Studio. He has performed in works by Laura Peterson, David Dorfman, Meredith Monk, Bill T. Jones, Shen Wei, Tiffany Mills, Risa Jaroslow, Byron Westrook, Coco Karol, Brandin Steffensen, Christopher Williams, JoAnna Mendl Shaw, Jodi Oberfelder, Michou Zsabo, Chris Elam and others throughout the United States, Australia, France, Ireland and Poland. His own work has been presented on both coasts and internationally at venues such as Danspace at St. Mark’s Church, LaMamma Theater, Dixon Place, Teatro Merida, Performance Works Northwest, Disjecta Gallery, Ten Tiny Dances, Studio 2, Velocity Dance Center and the Time Based Arts Festival in Portland OR. He has taught as a guest artist at NYU, Conneticut College and Reed College. He has also led workshops for dancers of all ages in Community Centers and High Schools throughout the 5 Boroughs of New York with Risa Jaroslow and Dancers. Gutgsell has been the recipients of Artist Residencies at Performance Works Northwest and Studio 2. His work, getting UP was commissioned by Muddy Feet Dance in Portland, OR and Dada Dance in Phillidelphia. He is most recently fascinated with improvisational work in non traditional performance spaces. Gutgsell is also a Licensed Massage Therapist.
